Christmas Craft and Jumper Day

We had a wonderfully festive cake and craft afternoon.  The children baked a fantastic assortment of food and worked with their families and staff to create beautiful Christmas crafts.

The food was delicious and the singing was lovely. Everyone wore their Christmas jumpers and looked very festive.

We were delighted that so many of you were able to join us. The money we raised has been donated Save the Children for their Christmas Jumper Appeal.

We wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.

Black History Month

As part of our work during Black History Month we invited Githanda, an African storyteller who works for the arts and heritage charity Settle Stories, to visit our school.

Black History Month is a time to celebrate black history, heritage and culture. The children were absorbed and had an inspirational and very enjoyable morning learning all about Africa.

Bolton Castle 2019

In September, Reception and Key Stage 1 visited Bolton Castle as part of their History work and this term’s topic, “Kings, Queens and Castles”. They travelled back in time, exploring the castle whilst wearing medieval costumes. They engaged in medieval activities and trained to be medieval soldiers. We had a tour of the castle and finished with dancing in the Great Chamber.

We received an email from Bolton Castle complementing our children which made us very proud.

"I really enjoyed the company of your children; they all put a lot into it and showed excellent manners throughout the day"

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

As part of our work on Africa the whole school visited The Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We couldn't visit Africa to see the animals so we went closer to home. We had workshops and were able to hold some of the smaller creatures that you were able to find in Africa like the Giant Land Snail and a huge snake! The staff told us lots about the animals and how they have adapted to their life in the hot African climate. We saw giraffes, elephants, antelopes ostrich and zebras as well as lots more interesting animals.

We had a fantastic day out and learned lots about African wildlife.

Mettupalayum Cultural Day

On 3rd April, Key Stage Two from Leeming and Londonderry and Pickhill schools spent the day looking at the daily lives and the culture of the children in the Indian village of Mettupalayam.

We have strong links with ‘The Friends of Mettupalayam Trust’ who work specifically with the schools and community of Mettupalayam in India. Over the years we have supported the trust and have raised money to provide, amongst other things, drinking water, dual language books and seeds to grow carrots for lunch.

Working with the charity has given our children an insight into the daily life and culture of the children of Mettupalayam.

The children made a delicious curry and created some cultural art.

We made a time line of the work of the charity and the impact their work has had, over the last 30 years, on the lives of the children and the community of Mettupalayam.

At the end of the day we invited parents and carers to attend a celebration of our work and taste our wonderful culinary delights!
