Staff Governor

Miss Leech (KS1)

I am delighted to be part of the Governing Body at Pickhill School and to hold the position of staff governor. After completing a degree in Education Studies at Bradford University, I spent a year working in a private day nursery as a nursery practitioner, a year in a special school working as a support assistant and a year working in a high school as a teaching and learning assistant for children with learning difficulties and autism. I then returned to Bradford University to complete a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, following which I secured a post at a school in Calderdale. I worked there for four years before moving to North Yorkshire where I began my current post at Pickhill in 2012. I live with my partner, dog and cat on an arable farm and love baking, walks in the countryside and spending time with my family. I hope to be able to draw on my previous experience to support the Governing Body in continuing to provide an excellent education for all our children.

Mr K Writer

I became a co-opted governor in 2014. I am married to Jaqs and we have three children and now live in Ripon having spent twelve happy years in Pickhill, where two of my children attended Pickhill School. I am a Director for a well-known and well-loved Yorkshire family business where governance as well as leading a progressive change agenda is key to my role. It is my hope that I can bring these and other skills to compliment the diversity of the Governing Body as well as learning from those I work alongside. I was pleased to be invited to be a co-opted governor at Pickhill as I have lived here for most of my life and went to Pickhill school as a little girl and have very fond memories of it. I currently work at Camp Hill Estate in Kirklington as the Events Organiser / Operations Manager. This is my dream job and I absolutely love it. Before this I worked as a Business Manager / Operations Manager for thirteen years. My little boy, Dylan, has just started at Pickhill School and he really loves it. I hope that with my work and life experiences I can add lots to the role I undertake as a governor for the school.

Co-opted & Community Governor

 Esme Hadley

I was invited to join as a co-opted governor in January 2015. This is my first governor post and I am very excited about it! I decided to become a governor because I wanted to contribute something substantial to my local community and having previously worked in a semi-rural village primary school I have seen first hand the importance of a rich early education for a child to go on to become a thriving young person. In my day job I am a practice nurse with governance playing a large part in the provision of care and whilst it’s a very difficult sector, I hope that the experience and wide range of skills I have from a career in nursing will prove valuable to the governing body. I live in Pickhill with my partner and my dog and spend a lot of time going for walks in our beautiful countryside.

I have lived in Sinderby for thirty years, having grown up in Kirklington. I am married to Paul and have four children, two of whom went to Pickhill School. I now have seven grandchildren and enjoy involving myself in village life whenever my family allows me the time! This includes being a member of the Village Hall Committee. I hope I am a friendly and approachable person and I look forward to getting to know all the children.

Most Thursday mornings in term-time I come into school to lead Collective Worship. I also lead school services in church. I hope to develop further ways of working with the school to help the children explore the Christian faith. I haven’t always been a Vicar. I taught in further education for a number of years.
