Creative Curriculum

We aim to foster a life-long love of learning, through adopting a cross-curricular, creative curriculum.  This aims to deliver a twenty-first century education that will equip our children with the skills required to be independent and responsible citizens. We aim to foster deep, memorable and connected learning.

The Creative Curriculum aims to:

  • Raise achievement
  • Provide a broad, balanced and enriching curriculum
  • Build up children’s confidence and motivation to learn through the use of a range of learning and teaching styles
  • Develop thinking and learning skills
  • Enable safe ‘risk taking’
  • Promote curiosity i.e. for further study
  • Embed key skills in order to prepare children for real-life and everyday situations
  • Provide opportunities to apply knowledge and learning in practical ways
  • Provide a creative approach to planning and delivery that will incorporate and embed key aspects of the National Curriculum
  • Provide enrichment opportunities where learning and teaching can take place beyond the classroom
  • Develop Excellence and Enjoyment
  • Develop social skills and encourage children to become more active citizens within the school community and beyond

What will the Creative Curriculum do for our learners?

  • Increase childrens’ motivation, enthusiasm and engagement in their learning, making learning more meaningful, through putting it into context
  • Raise standards in both teaching and learning
  • Help children become more independent and take greater ownership of their learning, developing children’s confidence and motivation to learn through the use of a range of learning and teaching styles
  • Give opportunity for a flexible timetabling approach to make space for true depth of study
  • Establish cross-curricular links to foster a broader understanding
  • Create and maintain an exciting and stimulating learning environment
  • Provide opportunities to apply knowledge and learning in practical ways and to solve problems in a variety of situations
  • Provide enrichment opportunities where learning and teaching can take place beyond the classroom

Creative Curriculum Overview

The Creative Curriculum has been organised into integrated Learning Journeys and links have been made to other curricular areas within the topic and curricular focus. The use of ICT is encouraged in all topic areas as a subject in its own right and in both the teaching of the theme and in the opportunities for children’s independent learning. Each class teacher is responsible for the delivery of the curriculum through a ‘themed’ approach which incorporates key skills.

Subjects included in Creative Curriculum

The Creative Curriculum will include History, Geography, Art, DT, ICT, Science and creative writing.  Links with RE, Maths, PSHCE and other curriculum areas will be made when appropriate.  Maths and other English key skills (grammar, spelling, phonics, handwriting etc) will be allocated discrete sessions to ensure the acquisition of these key skills which will be reinforced within the curriculum.
